San Luis Obispo, May 23, 2011-- AmericanStar Trailways (AST) and KSBY have partnered to offer this year's California Mid State Fair City-to-City bus shuttle. This is AST's third year providing the service, which is aimed at reducing traffic near the Fairgrounds, providing sober transportation for fairgoers and raising money for charity.
“We have a great partnership with the Mid State Fair, and are hoping that the marketing sponsorship so generously provided by KSBY will really create a buzz about the service” said Jon Dotson, Manager at AmericanStar Trailways.
“In the past couple years, we provided more than 3500 round trip rides for passengers to and from the Fair. This means we removed in the ballpark of 1000 cars from local roads and saved as many parking spaces near the Fairgrounds. With fuel prices being so high, and the dangers associatesd with DUI, $10 for a round trip ride is a great value.” Fair security personnel help out by keeping buses safe from unruly riders, he added.
This year's routes and scheduling have been modified to maximize efficiency and convenience. "It is important to us that we maximize service efficiency without sacrificing the number of buses we offer" said Dotson. "This is our biggest charitable event of the year, and while we provided a great service last year (2010), it wasn't a huge success financially." All net proceeds have been donated to the American Cancer Society in years past. For 2011, AST is considering making their donation to a local cause.
